The MaxxECU Expansion Module is a CAN-based I/O expansion designed to add additional inputs and outputs to any MaxxECU system.

Compatible with everything from the compact MaxxECU MINI to the latest GEN2 ECU series. Housed in a compact IP-68 powder coated aluminum case with a SuperSeal 1.0 connector, it's built for reliability in the harshest environments. The Expansion Module communicates over the MaxECU CAN network and appears directly inside MTune for seamless integration and configuration.

Full Specifications:

MaxxECU Expansion Module Analog Inputs
  • Accepts 0-5V analog or digital signals, max 24 V.
  • Digital threshold: 3 V. Selectable 2.5 kΩ 5 V pull-up resistors.
  • Analog update rate: Selectable up to 2 kHz. Input resistance: 200 kΩ.
  • Switches/buttons and other slow signals in digital mode.
  • Note: Ethanol sensors, etc. are not supported here - use PULSE inputs instead.

MaxxECU Expansion Module PULSE Inputs

  • Accepts digital or VR signals, max 200 V, up to 30 kHz.
  • Input resistance: 62 kΩ.
  • Selectable digital, VR input or custom thresholds.
  • 1kHz max update rate transmitted to the ECU.

MaxxECU Expansion Module 12V outputs

  • 12 V sourcing output for general loads.
  • Active = 12 V, off = floating.
  • Max 5 A continuous. Protected against overload, short circuit. Flyback protection 30V.
  • PWM up to 20kHz.
  • Update speed 2ms (GEN1), 0.5ms (GEN2) (depening on CAN-bus load).

MaxxECU Expansion Module h-bridge outputs

  • 12 V push-pull (half-bridge) output for motors or loads.
  • Active = 12 V, off = ground.
  • For bidirectional motors (e.g., throttles): connect the load between two H-bridge outputs.
  • For general loads: connect the load between one H-bridge output and ground.
  • Overload and short-circuit protected. PWM current-limiting.
  • Max 7.5A–15 A (selectable), 10A continuous.
  • PWM up to 20kHz.
  • Update speed 2ms (GEN1), 0.5ms (GEN2) (depening on CAN-bus load).

MaxxECU Expansion Module technical

  • Black powder-coated aluminium enclosure with IP68 environmental protection.
  • Superseal 1.0 automotive connectors for reliable motorsport-grade wiring.
  • Seamless CAN integration with MaxxECU and MTune, requiring no manual CAN message configuration.
  • All inputs and outputs are protected against overvoltage, reverse polarity, overload, and short circuits.
  • 12 analog inputs accepting 0–5 V analog signals or up to 24 V digital inputs with selectable pull-up resistors.
  • PULSE inputs supporting digital or VR sensors up to 30 kHz with configurable input modes and thresholds.
  • Selectable analog input sampling rates of up to 2 kHz, with pulse data transmitted to the ECU at up to 1 kHz.
  • 4 high-current 12 V sourcing outputs, capable of 5 A continuous per channel with integrated flyback protection.
